Hiring a Head of Sensor and Software for BioSort
BioSort creates sensor-based solutions for optimization of fish resources. Their solutions will manage fish on an individual level, creating value and increased sustainability through increased fish welfare and higher production yields. In need of an experienced and exceptionally competent lead for their software engineer team, BioSort reached out to us to find this person for them.

The Challenge
Our challenge was to find a candidate that was experienced enough to take a Lead role in BioSort's team of highly skilled engineers, however, also one that still possesses the motivation to be hands-on and contribute operationally to the design and development of solutions for the iFarm sensors, illumination and robotic sorting system as well as other areas relevant to the company plans ahead.
In short the challenge was twofold:
- Finding the right balance between lead vs hands-on orientation and experience.
- Finding the right balance between HW and SW orientation.

The Process
The collaboration between the First Engineers recruiters and the client was of essence. Through an in-depth understanding of our client's needs, we were able to attract equal numbers of qualified applicants and sourced candidates.
The Solution
The final candidate that was hired for the role stood out with a very interesting profile and a technical background that truly adds value to the client and exceeded their expectations. To us, this was one of these instances where all data on the candidate side indicates a true match both technically and personally with the team and company at hand. Additionally, a match where we are convinced it will be a great experience for the candidate to emerge himself in.


We chose to work with FE primarily because of their extensive experience in hiring engineers. In the process we experienced FE to be very professional and having an structured approach to the search, screening and selection stages. I was even contacted by a candidate who did not want to change jobs, but just wanted to praise FE for the way he had been contacted. When we started using FE for this position we did not intend to use them for other positions, however, we have now decided to start a new search with them immediately.


First Engineers' team played a professional yet approachable moderator role at all stages of recruitment. They aimed to help both parties exchange and match a holistic view of the required technical skills, work experience, and personality by asking purposeful questions. The interview process was thoroughly planned, clearly communicated and well executed providing an overall positive experience.
